Recreational Activities Around Springfield, MO
Recreation is one of the few expenses that make us richer. Visiting somewhere new, meeting new people and doing new things, are all wonderful experiences that make our lives a lot more interesting. It is all too easy to fall into the trap of working just to pay bills. While I am fully aware that money and debt always seems to be at the forefront of everyone's mind these days, sticking to a practical budget will help you have enough money to get out and explore the world every now and then. No matter how bad you think your finances are, balance is needed so it is imperative that we learn to take some time for ourselves. As one famous musician once sang, "life is just for living!"
When the expense is not an issue, many people complain that they simply do not know what to do. Everyone has grown tired of the usual options and that is why most people shy away from bowling, the movie theatre and skating. But there is an endless list of recreational activities available in Springfield, Missouri. Because this city boasts so many scenic locations, your options are limitless. Here are few of my favorites:
1. The Springfield Conservation Nature Center
This attraction is perfect for the entire family because there is so much to see and to do. The Nature Center sports scenic walking trails that are perfect for getting a quick hike, exploring with the family or romantic strolls. As you explore the trail you will enjoy watching adorable squirrels and other animals scurry around for food and hear birds chirping away as they fly about. If you are not fond of hiking or walking, you can also check out the nature displays which are well put together and quite informative. This place is perfect for both indoor and outdoor recreation. As trivial as this might sound, I think it's an added plus that there's also tons of parking space.
2. Pythian Castle
Imagine being led by a captivating speaker through a large, well maintained castle. For $10, you can explore this breathtaking historical site. The guided tour is neither too short or too lengthy, so it's unlikely that you will get bored along the way or end up feeling like you didn't get your money's worth. Plus you have the option of taking the tour in the day, and if you are brave enough you can also check it out after work one night.
3. Jordan Valley Park
This scenic park is ideal for a variety of family oriented activities like picnics, swimming and jogging. You can always find kids splashing around in the fountains but you will also see quite a number of couples strolling around. Even though this park is a little small, it also has a number of quiet spots where you can hide away and enjoy a good book. Whatever you decide to do, you will be pleasantly surprised to see that the staff ensure the park is clean at all times.
4. Lake Springfield Park, Boathouse and Marina
One of the most popular attractions in Springfield is the Lake Springfield Park. The entire park is beautiful but I find the view of the lake at sunset to be simply breathtaking. You can visit this park all year round and still find opportunities to relax and unwind. The lush green lawn surrounding the lake is where many come to enjoy nature or let their kids run around unhinged. If you are up for a challenge you can even try your hand at canoeing on the river.
5. Captain Rick's Fishing Guide Service
You should be able to tell by now that I am a little 'outdorsy.' If you are anything like me, the opportunity to go on a fishing trip with a seasoned pro will sound too good to be missed. Captain Rick is entertaining, polite and quite professional. This will be a trip you won't ever forget.
